theyre young and tough, and especially wonderful too, easily one of the most compelling harmony soul groups to ever hail from the windy city! the sets a chicago soul gem from the early 70s, recorded with a laidback, slightly tripped-out vibe thats different than the tighter styles of other groups from the same scene, definitely righteous at points, with some of the superbad modes you might hear from an east coast lineup like the delfonics or soul generation, especially when they were trying to get a bit more conscious in their message. arrangements are great – handled by tom tom washington, eugene record, and cliff davis, very much at the best brunswick mode, but again with a deeper sort of vibe too. the title cuts a monster, and a very fitting follow-up to their earlier sly, slick, & wicked track – and the album features 2 versions (vocal and instrumental) of a cut called this is the lost generation, a very righteous soul groove with a heavy production tip.

black booby is back with the mighty jordan fields from chicago, il and richard rogers, london, uk for bb-09 4 tracks of retro inspired, raw, stripped machine music. jordan’s a1 blaster is pure gherkinesq analogue, mind melting, building mayhem, designed for dancing richard rogers debut on bb gives a2 a workshop vs detroit styled bass workout with subtle paperclip percussion bringing up the rear. black booby tears up the seminal kenji tsujisaka produced shinobi coin op level music to new club dance floor heights on b1, b2. direct 8 bit coin op pressure with stripped 707, 808 and 909 rhythm sections. retroactive music for arcade junkies.

vinyl only release! the cough & drop ep is a various artists reworks ep with a ronnie turner and edgar moon collab on the ace robertas slack single and then ronnie digs out two killer cuts, the first being chucks back reworking chuck brown and the soul searchers borrero e sombero and the second is the very rare ashphalt jungle track freaky time which has been tweaked up a bit strictly for groovers. we are sure this ep will be doing some serious dance floor damage in the months to come

volfs second ep for dolly and its on! two fierce but club friendly rolling techno tracks featuring an epic luke hess remix. with their warm and euphoric chords hydro funk and shadow section will take you right back to the golden days of techno, reminding a bit of aril brikha and the likes. detroit s luke hess on remix duties takes hydro funk into even deeper territories. an hypnotic and melancholic, yet very driving detroit techno tool. pure bliss on dolly number 23.

up first is gigolo, a spare and weird house cut with sine waves and random claps, hunched drums and trippy synth lines. it s a unique track made in a unique way and will lead to plenty of freaky dance floor moments, for sure. co. art is a whacked out techno cut with slap-funk claps, blistering and blistered synth lines and a rugged bit of bass underlining it all. the track is cavernous and metallic, empty and distant as if it somehow survived a nuclear blast. on the flip, alzheimer is a slow and gurgling, swampy techno number with broken drums and crawling synths that sound like their batteries have run down. icy, watery melodies eventually rain down, but the track remains resolutely eerie. last of all, fabric is another decaying track with subtle, heavily filtered synths and drums all making for a minimal groove that is barely there.

stepping up for the second ep on brame & hamos own imprint splendor & squalour is top boy hamo with his debut solo ep -the cotton club. with his partner brame he has already released staggering eps on dirt crew recordings and dam swindles own heist recordings. a fierce rise in the deep house community for sure! we already had a small taste of hamo s solo productions on the clockwerk ep that was released beginning of this year as the first ep on splendor & squalour. now we are giving you a full 5 tracker with a remix from box aus holz/ torben boy kickflip mike. the ep kicks off with title track - cotton club - a jazzy deep house jam, keeping the hip hop vibe present. up next is -wonce- which is a little bit more on the melodic side. we would also like to welcome more of our sligo family to the label with this side up, the hip hop trio is featured as third on the a side with the straight hip hop track in control. on to the b side we have the brilliant kickflip mike adding a much clubbier vibe to -wonce- a real early mornings bomb. to close the ep hamo has given us black lodge, a dusty house groover with delightful hi-hats and very clever sampling going on as in all his works, solo or with his homey brame.

techno exists in a distorted field. what is wrong elsewhere is right here. what shouldnt work works. awake at night and asleep by day. rough is beautiful, slick is rotten. with macro, things are always a bit more wrong than usual. and thats how they also end up being a bit more beautiful than usual. stefan goldmanns fossil water: fender bass tones weave a pad, from the thumping bottom up to the silky top, congregating into intense moments of dance floor bliss. the b-side throws us in at the deep end, with the tense yet laid back workout of nephelin, tipping over into the sheer techno claustrophobia of de-gauss. dark and warm like a stockholm syndrome: feeling cozy while the horror comes upon you.

uk funk connoisseur duke slammer takes the driving seat on the 303-fueled ‘bangkok skytrain’, with remixes from moscow based simple symmetry and returning artist tony g. inspired by tropical heat, bangkok skytrain utilises 303s, analogue drum machines and mixes in field recordings taken from an excursion to thailand. the result is a heady concoction of warm basslines and humid atmospheres, with a groove reminiscent of early 90’s melodic techno and a cheeky drum track that wouldn’t be out of place on a larry heard record. simple symmetry, the lipski brothers from moscow, slowly rebuild layers of the track like a locomotive building up momentum, and in typical style simple symmetry style finding the perfect vocal sample and pan pipes that help propels you into the foreign lands. before you know it the track is pumping at full chug! tony g’s take goes a bit further afield than the original. a dub rhythm sets the picture in outer-space. hihats stutters like cosmic dust rickashading off the nosecone of the space ship while longing strings take us deep into a distant nebular before the 303 bring the thousands of new galaxies into view. definitely music to listen to in the dark! look out for the secret dancefloor weapon ‘just drums’, an industrial drum machine workout for the freaks!

the summer heat is still on our minds and we all do miss the sunny days, the beaches and the endless open air parties… thanks sascha dive for the right soundtrack and this summer flashback: dives new release for cocoon beams us back to the high days of the summer of 2015: especially into the woods seems to be the perfect sound for all these deeply missed summervibes. into the woods is a pristine tech-house production that comes with a cool straight forward beat programming, very nice reverse strings-sounds and hypnotic house chords. a nicely flavoured chicago club housefeeling and exactly how we like it! werewolf appears slightly more spaced out, however we are still deep in the house universe here. dive is pushing it a bit harder now - he uses crazy chord sounds and turns the track into an 11 minutetech house journey. after the summer flashback with into the woods this one beams us definitely more into the darker and hotter inner city clubs. a massive tech-house-striker by the diver and we are proud to say it is one of his strongest works so far!

after last autumn’s ‘knowledge ep’, héctor oaks returns to key vinyl with four more solid dancefloor fillers of the kind we’re starting to expect from the berlin-based upstart. now several records deep and with his fourth berghain set firmly behind him, these days his sound is about as honed and gratifying as skills from the booth. and ‘kepler 186f’ is the proof.
on the a-side “dissolve” sets its sinews to march on this taut, tough and punchy number. “radial clicles” then reins in the muscle a bit in favour of a more skulking, spectral slow-build. meanwhile on the b-side, “stone storage” sends cool cymbals and crunchy hats on a sinuous, calculated romp. leaving “avoid reality” to close in noisy, bombastic fashion. but watch out—this one’s a bit of a tease.

the mysterious talent antenna shows his tough, high impact house sound for his second release on the dutch pinkman label. first up, ‘childhood’ is a mid tempo bit of elastic, groove driven house with whirring machines, raw synth patterns and filtered, muffled vocals. hi hats add an incendiary element of pressure but really this one is all about the pinging, rubbery drums that flail like drunken limbs. ‘when i read my book’ is another purposeful offering riddled with melody and deep drums, slapping claps and lots of jittery cow bells, impish synth sounds and bass kills that brings a real sense of energy to proceedings. lastly, ‘in august’ is a tripped out cut with skipping kick drums, celestial and heavenly, glassy melodies and skittish percussion that all glide along in alluring and off kilter fashion. this is house music, but not as you know it!

new to the stay underground it pays gang, the eighth release on the label comes from none other than octo octa! you know him from his prolific run on 100% silk, and more recently for his ep on gerd jansons running back label at the top of the year. the man from brooklyn serves up 4 slices of that u.s. experimental house sound we love so much. on the a side, we have two versions of octo octa’s melancholic title track, requiem for the body. both as good as the other, it’s gonna be split for a lot of listeners on which is better. while both versions share certain elements, the second plays down the long keys of the first versions in favour of some stabby chord patterns. either way, proper 4 a.m. business!on the flip, we get a bit more ethereal with times two (loose version). simple yet effective, this one has a lot of atmosphere with those delayed vocal cuts over that late 80s bassline. closing out the record is when home. this one is a bit of a stomper at first until it brings in the lighter synth elements halfway through. someone, somewhere will have an epiphany listening to this track. if its you reading this, send in the results on the back of a postcard. all in all, another killer release that feels straight at home in the stay underground it pays catalogue

cheerful percussions and a nice bassline with a good vocal welcome us for the first track same named as the ep. the remix version is made by enzo siffredi, one of the stylerockets-newbies and a high talented dj and producer based in brighton. the remix version is more ticked and pushing. pitch pink is number 3 and colours up your life with a perfect sound arrangments. elmar strathe pitched a bit more and gave a great remix track to the ep.

g-23 makes his debut under the strange audio dreams moniker, coming through on italy s young art-aud label with a sweltering two-tracker backed by two heavy remixes. -error design 1- is a break-driven jam that never truly drops into pool of nastiness, leaving you yearning more, while -error design 2- strips the beats in favour of glitchy field recordings and percussion-driven drones. pan s nhk yx koyxen remixes the former into a wonky bit of brain dynamite, pushing those breaks in and out his melodic waves, cardopusher makes a deep techno roll out of the same original tune. all in all, a rather essential piece of gear.

iron me debuts on resopal for a grand sonic journey not only to the vibrant heart of the dancefloor. coupling contemporary 4/4 tracks with a bit unusual resopal style breakbeatish-tinged soundscapes and deep deep dub, iron me acts as both a skillfully composed portfolio of personal memories and a sublime collection of charming cuts. his unique mélange of emotional and functional elements works exceptionally well for the full-length format. each cut operates as its own little time capsule, storing bits and pieces of recollection and then magically transforming them into epic, beat-driven soundscapes. red bodden is an album for dancing wildly, relaxing, hoovering the house and losing yourself. a true musical journey.

the second release we do with french artists upwellings aka vincent raude who is professor of modern art at the academy of brest and has been recording music since 1996. his ep comprised two tracks. a-side >dubbin at the strobe< feat. michael zerang shows a nice interaction of drums and sounds developing a profound deep mood. drum parts were recorded in chicago by michael zerang, a real jazz legend who played a lot with peter brötzmann and joe mcphee, hamid drake. the flip side >lighthouse dub< has the aura of an place which is extremely isolated. the sound is at times extremely pulled back and melancholic and holds a sentiment that reminds us a bit of joy divisions >we are the young men<. the track undergoes a transformation beatwise when going more uptempo.

u2xproductions presents, i m yours written by niko marks and featured artist, sadiqua. niko expresses true detroit deepness while allowing room for a sultry female vocal to carry a bit of melody throughout each mix. a1 starts off low tempo and very dance friendly while b1 delivers a very funky baseline and leans to a more aggressive beat. b2 gets really deep and plays down to a minimal pulse. this release is a definite dj record with smooth and rich grooves that will make a great fit into your playlists!

with soul, his first solo ep, alles andrs appears in a new, but not altogether unfamiliar light. the bavarian based producer sounds like an analog pop shepherd with clean fingernails, providing the needed feed for djs. here on his debut you will find three mind-blowing vocal house club bangers with over-modulated frequencies for the nightly sweat outbreak. this music is the easily-understood sonic language of alles andrs. he gives us space and depth, and the music is positioned somewhere within a sonic cosmos.

returning home after the acclaimed holding ep and the highly regarded clap clap remix, lurka continues with his journey into sonic bat country. partials kicks off with lurka’s typical intrigue, pads swell with distant spectres of percussion build into the most saturated kick of the year slapping you in the face like wet rag, while an architecture of syncopated hats and bit crunching snares lock the angles a shower of haunting bells falls. dancehall for witching hour. mach steps in with an equally holo-deck soundscape. drums swing in awkward alliance with dry wooden blocks and woozy binary language. both tracks united in their skewed viewpoint and distinctive awkward funk.

dani casarano & felipe valenzuelas melisma imprint returns with opaco. the original mix by felipe venegas is very distinct with its wide open and subtle pads, which together with the floating groove sum up to a very relaxed and still demanding atmosphere. birdsmakingmachine in their remix shrink this up a bit in favour of a perpetual jack - -bmminimal- style so to say.

summer 2015, illustrious festivals everywhere, gigantomania and superlatives without frontiers. who is looking for the small, fine and familiar alternative to the existing festival formats will find what they are looking for at the *day at the sea*. once a year the picturesque backdrop at the beach on the island of rügen get filled with life. at our festival in prora a lot of hand-picked live-artists and djs create a musical universe from reggae over downtempo up to house and techno. with the first *day at the sea* ep our acts bondi, verschnibbt & zugenäht, masterton with his remix for moby and tagträumer² bring a bit of that special beach feeling onto the black gold. exclusive songs let you imagine the scent of salty air and make the anticipation of a refreshing jump in the baltic sea come alive.

up first, juice machine is a barreling cut with pinging drums that ride up and down in infectious style. carefully treated vocals echo up top and add a dub flavour as subtle rave horns and old school motifs also colour the groove. when remixed by re.you, the track becomes a more subdued, deeper cut with spraying synths and a sense of late night paranoia in the grooves. lastly, badass acid is a minimal cut with warm pads, hiccuping sine waves and a growing sense of synthetic tension. it s a masterful bit of slow burning craftsmanship that has icy hi hats to die for.

next up on titanic city, needs no introduction, nigel rogers aka perseus traxx has been a staple part on most record bags, a man dedicated to performance outside the box, has produced one of the greatest releases we will surely drop all year. some kind comments in our direction had to surly be returned with a request for a release and did he deliver. nigels first question was *what do you like* - *well we love your m>o>s, bunker, photic fields, snuff trax material*, he returned with a little bit of all. i am not gonna give the whole soaring pads, scraping percussive smears or the frenzied synth lines. this is perseus traxx he always delivers!! there is a rough and raw diy feel to this music that makes it jump out of the speakers and arrest your attention, as is always the case with titanic city.

newcomer mosey drops a beautiful debut for future times!! the three tracks on the ep have an intangible, melancholy lift to them, primed for fans of lovers rock techno and 16-bit new wave.

the original he serves up here is my groove, a firmly rooted and solid bit of house music with classically inclined vocal chants by gjeazon from crazy like a fox records, that recall eddie amador s biggest cut. subtle details embellish the groove and make it all the more standout, and those deep looping basslines really pull you into the middle of the track, which also has airy hi hats and a sleazy sense of funk. the first remix comes from afterparty founder, rinse fm radio host, former usher tour dj, southern fried affiliate and pioneer collaborator doorly, who also runs his own pigeon hole label. his remix smooths out the kinks and simmers a grainy groove for seven shuffling, seductive minutes. rolling effects and a big breakdown are sure to make for some fist pumping moments in the club. last to remix is play it down producer and foremost danish dj christian nielsen. he does so with an increased sense of urgency and his track hits that bit harder as a result, all thanks to a dirty down low bassline that just rolls and rolls.

in a time before cdj loop buttons and stone-cold arrangement techniques, bonus beats and beat records were a vital tool for aspiring, working and tone-deaf djs. the third release in an unofficial beat-tracks sublabel (se redshape and todd osborn for further reference) rhythm trainx vol 1 tries to breathe new life into that lost craft with an all-star cast: manuel tur, i:cube, blank spanner, disco nihilist, Âme and radio slave. all in different bpm, varying styles and (un)fortunately a bit more than simple kick-drum-hi-hat patterns. built to last.

now living in warsaw, donnell knox was well known, along with black nation s jay denham for forging a tough, distinct kalamazoo techno sound in the 90s. his label, sonic mind, put out some very coveted, underground wax that still sounds unique, extra rugged, and fresh. well d-knox is now on a bit of a comeback mission it seems, with some really inspiring new material, and “africa calling”. the first version, created to donnell’s much loved “spirit man” alias, is a soulful trek through layers of pads and emotive synth work. the simple, but uplifting, vocal snippet really gives it an organic and spiritual feel, the tempo is driving and quick, but the overall vibe is laid back and deep. remixes come from the likes of brooklyn based titonton duvante, who maximizes a synth pattern to a form a beautiful, reaching, version, while canada’a rennie foster channels his futago traxx style to present a full on tribal, drum based mix with added vocal pieces. also, detroit transplant, now living in canada as well, j garrett goes in with a very emotional, warm, string laden take. the ep is capped off with another version from donnell that could stand as it’s own track really, a totally different, but equally as strong, version featuring a driving baseline and detroit style string vamps. a really nice release, worthy of your support, from a well loved veteran of the techno underground.

a1 - the newness- combines dystopian sound landscapes with dubby atmosphere and whoopy beats. b side opens with - g.i.r.r engine-, reminiscent to -never engine-, one of cristian s best works up to date, blueprint of minimal techno with no additions. last but not the least, - box engine 124- slows speed down a bit and finishes the ep with dark and funky though spacey trip to another dimension.

title track is a beautiful and epic journey in techno soul quite rare to hear these days, reminding a bit of early nineties detroit/uk techno and even some of the early speedy j works, all with nowadays production skills. stunning contemporary techno the classic way. then from heaven to hell with 60606, an evil distorted acidic drum track guaranteed to damage kids brains worldwide. but no time to think long anyway cause theres we only have, an autistic out-of the-box jack track providing a sneaky tool for the more adventurous dj. this will separate the gurners from the dancers. top-notch showcase by the unstoppable man-machine that is marco bernardi!

boston bun delivers second part of the 3 just for freaks series. this second volume toughens a bit more boston buns club experience. highland park is an homage to detroit and to body music. a regular and hypnotic train that goes with a video of unseen footages from 1994 tour from the famous highland park. harder, more mannish, hotel workout is a jacking anthem to lonely push-ups in hotel rooms.

its release time for house is ok! frankfurt based label waited a bit longer than usual for its co-owner marko pelaic aka homeboy to come up with new sounds so it doesnt really surprise theyve decided to let him take over this, one man reign ep, first of that sort for this etiquette. kaprije is not only news for the label but homeboy himself in a way he defined it as writing a new chapter, stepping away from traditional house music, exploring more of the experimental and modern sounds a direction hes interested in continuing.

almost a year after their best-selling second ep, the anonymous bandits crumbs return to the fray, with another perfectly planned and executed smash & grab although delivering a mysterious & scantily clad 12- is hardly a novel concept these days, it does concentrate the mind (and feet) on the music more than the brand it s undercover time again, and we re sworn to secrecy, of course...but two of the regular collaborators have engaged in a serious bit of one upmanship having landed this diverse haul, let s take a look inside as we move from a completely overhauled musicbox classic, flipped and re-pitched for 21st century floors. followed up by a totally irresistible modern afro-disco workout with more than a few sonic surprises thrown in turn over for a lost, cosmic gem with no end of additional sparkle, coupled with a a twice-baked & loose jointed rhythm and bass workout that really slams. a dj s delight, then, to be mixed up or played raw this one will be gone in the blink of an eye, but treasured for much longer

slightly odd warehouse-kind-of-find from the west coast of usa. tracky beats, driving organ-synth-pads on the b, sometimes almost jacking and definitely a little bit wrong. this 12inch has more real taste of the underground than the regular limited edition hyped labels these days.

after a very techno first release, unanim returns with another approach of the genre. it is herodot who delivers two very different tracks for his duo ep.
silent record rules the first side of this vinyl and its a monster. the rolling bassline and the powerful percussion are backed by tripping background noises. you cand also hear french experimentalist duo radiomentalle and david toops distorted voice. this one is definitely not silent and 100% destined for the dancefloor.
on a more subtle note side b features tul which is not as * loud* and a bit tool-ish. lurking sounds populate the background and the shakers provide a percussive feeling throughout the track. techno hasnt left the building !

boola is no stranger at all to the vinyl club team. he was amongst the very first customers of the former ibiza record shop that gave birth to vinyl club, and even if this is his first release on the imprint he contributed from the beginning to inspire the crew with his early productions that enlightened the golden days of dc10, some of them being released on the then new born arpiar label a bit less than a decade ago. joining the vinyl club agency in 2013, he is since then sharing the dj booth too with the team for endless sessions at cdv / berlin.

there was a time at the end of the eighties in which virtuous japanese musicians were forced to use just a few kilobytes to arrange the music of the videogames of the 8 bit era. despite the limitations of the early days of the digital music, the evocative power of their composition has remained unchallenged.

saes debuts on deep freaks with a collection of three originals that blur the genre lines between deep house and minimal. inspired by late nights in brooklyn, ny the menahan ep delivers a soundscape of evolving chords, chugging drums and just a little bit of acid

first up here is kenloto, a chunky bit of bass driven house with crisp perc. it builds to a nice tense peak with lots of loose, jumbled textures and will make for a fine bit of peak time listening. the other original is whack, which is another tough house cut with firm bass, old school new jersey snare patterns and rolling drums that are rich, warm and rubbery. miguel lobo s remix is a more spritely thing with lithe chords, colourful synths and and a pent up energy that just never stops giving. closing out the fantastic package is paul c & paulo martini who remix kenloto into a trippy affair with ghoulish voices, hard hitting drums and lots of dark wave energy that will carry you late into the night.

the a1 was never a big surprise. mattias fridell s consumed for profit was one of the tracks of the year, and surely fridell s personal best track, and was played by anyone who at least plays a bit of techno in their sets. the usual fridell quality of standard and a tight synth line! a2 sees french artist electric rescue s quarries in the a. mochi remix. a peak-time banger, slapping the synth stabs right into your face. this one always gets the floor jumping. the b-side kicks off with label-head advance human s pure , stripping things down to some essential moody but slamming techno, right up there amongst his best productions. b2 has +platform s mosses closing things off, and as we came to know and love from +platform, it s out there, dubby and dreamy techno, born for those deeper berghainesque floors.
